Samples ahoy!

Yesterday the milk paint samples landed in the workshop, one of each colour that they have in stock from the Old Fashioned Milk Paint Company’s ‘Sweet Pickin’s’ range , plus five from their originals range. These are - bayberry, driftwood, mustard, light cream and barn red. This heritage paint is mixed with warm water and left to stand for ten minuets before application. Once dried it is lightly sanded with fine sandpaper, as it is, being water based, raises the wood grain before applying subsequent coats. An oil is then applied to the painted surface which adds a protective layer and brings the colour out. Three coats of oil is sufficient before applying a top coat of wax. This will give the surface a nice soft sheen and will highlight the crisp hand planed edges on each chair, giving it a characteristic that is unique to hand crafted furniture.
