Carving the seat

Here I have started carving one of the seats for the captain’s chair commission. I think I’ll go ahead and prep the legs on this chair and assemble the lower half before moving on to the other one. I do enjoy carving seats, to do this I use a scorp which is a curved edged tool designed for a specific purpose - to carve hollow surfaces in wood. The curved blade can be cumbersome to sharpen but once a keen edge is achieved, the clean smooth surface that it leaves behind makes the sanding process effortless.
